Unreal World Forum

Is the world real or unreal? That is the question that is being raised by Michael for Subbu. I agree with Subbu s answer. But here I am presenting two of the five definitions of falsity that Shree Madhusudana presents defending previous aachaaryas positions.

Some of you may have heard it mentioned in passing on the forums, some of you already know all about it, and some of you have no idea what I'm talking about.is a game that pits the player against, well, the world. Survival is the name of this particular game, and sometimes it will come easily, other times not so much. Featuring an incredibly in-depth yet only somewhat annoying world, URW allows players to chop down a tree, cut it first into blocks which then get turned into firewood, light a fire from the wood, and finally settle down to cook some of that fox that you caught in your hand-made trap.Build a cottage and stake your claim to a small section of the world, or wander around it while stopping to make a lean-to out of sticks and a campfire to keep you warm for the night.Set out from your place of rest in search of wild animals for your supper, but be watchful for barbarians prowling the woods!

Perhaps you'll come across a fellow hunter in the woods who will agree to follow you on a hunting trip for a few days if you give him some food and drink, and perhaps a weapon to defend himself with.If times get rough and food becomes scarce, dire measures can be taken. Pull out your weapon and crack the hunter's head open, allowing you to gut his carcass for much-needed meat which will last you the coming winter.Do you trap animals and sell the furs to a trader in a nearby village for supplies? Do you reject civilization, and live on your own in the wilderness?

Or do you perhaps settle down in a quiet village to farm your crops and maybe find a good wife? All things are possible in the cold lands of the UnReal World. So, anyways. I just downloaded and installed this little gem, and can happily say it has further reduced my efficiency.

Even just the demo has become addictive, although I'm playing fast and hard to try and squeeze the most out of the in-game time limit. So far, one hunter has met his death to some illness or another (I think it may have had something to do with that mushroom I ate. Or maybe the hunting spirit got ticked off with me for not thanking him enough for that reindeer), and another is rushing towards starvation, held back only by the roasting flesh of one very unfortunate trapper.I pose a question for those who have played it: Is it worth buying? And if so, which package? Also, who do you like to play as and under what conditions?P.S.Finnish is one crazy language. I'm downloading the demo now.

How dare they make a time-limit demo? That's the lowest thing you can possibly do.

Who cares if you have all the features, you can't do anything with them. Sins of a Solar Empire did the same thing, and it takes forever to accomplish anything in that, so you're pretty much screwed.quote:Now the badgers can't rip off your arms nor you need to be afraid of beavers easily gnawing you to pieces.I think I'm going to like this game. March 25, 2008: Message edited by: Muffles. I could swear the first version of this game that I played was non-graphical. checks news.txt. That would place it at before version 2.10, which was released in June 1996. Though I might well have played it even several years after that, because I suspect the game percolated to me through many a hard drive and floppy disk.Anyway, I registered the game somewhere around version 2.60 with the 150 markka option, which got me the game and a special version that was used as an educational game at some library somewhere (the specifics escape me).

Since then, I've played the game maybe once every two years or so. It really is fairly boring IMO.The only thing I ever actually wanted to do in UrW but never did was completing the advanced game course. I think I've tried it twice so far - the first time I wasn't smart enough to prepare for the plague, the second time. Uh, I don't even remember what got me then, but I think it was something unrelated to the game course, before I got to the plague.BTW, it amuses me to read about people who tend to get into the disfavour of the spirits. That basically never happens to me - I tend to be nature's best buddy before I even get any sacrificial rituals at all, and once I do get them, I use them until I max out my favour (you get a message saying the ritual feels useless). You get way more meat than you can eat before it spoils by hunting anyway, and most of the rituals aren't terribly useful (Oath of iron is great if you have the right kind of weapon, both of the blood-staunching rituals are essential for survival, and that's more or less it) and so don't need to be used anyway.Summon the giant pike was a fun ritual, btw. Shame it got cut because players didn't like it.

Just started yet another rent-a-Finn, this time it's an islander who used his little boat to go out and find, yes, an island.I've got my own little forest-island, and I've plunked a net down out in the water a ways. If I feel the need to hunt, I can head in towards land and tool around for a while, but that probably won't come up. I'm too busy doing stuff to actually do anything.

Time limits suck.Still though, it's a nice island. Blueberry bushes all over the place. I've already cooked myself a big pot o' blueberry soup (had to drink it out of the pot. I used my only knife to make a spear, so I don't have anything to carve wood with). He's dead.Since I don't like dying to the ten-day lifespan, I try to find something fatal before that.

Well, I found one.One of those Njer warriors was wandering around in a forest, and I ran after him shouting 'Oh YOOOHOO! I'm lost, can you help me find my testicles?' Well, now I'm dead. Not entirely sure what I died from, but I had a fractured knee and more puncturewounds and bruises than I could count. Well, more than he could count, anyways. Islanders are not known for their math skills. This is fun, but it really bugs me that I have so short a time to play. The one guy I let die to the time limit was just about to charge screaming into battle against a fox when he keeled over.

Probably scared the fox right out of its skin, which is okay, since I hadn't figured out how to tan skins yet. Oh, that was the cannibal dude, by the way. Mmmm, delicious trapper roast.

I keep playing this #@$# game for some reason. Its got a bad and tedious user interface, its kind of buggy, the pace of development is about as fast as a crippled snail, and all there is to it is kill, skin, roast, eat, drink, sleep, eat, drink, kill, skin, roast. But I still find it addictive. It's got a nice hunting and fishing system, and I like how the world map and local maps integrate, but at it's heart there's not a whole lot to do!

Why do keep playing this game over and over??If Toady can make adventurer mode in DF as addictive and fun as this game, then it would rival fortress mode in sheer awesomeness, no contest. Here's hoping that food and drink, hunting, skinning, trapping, fishing, raiding, etc.

Will not only be fun, but challenging and necessary for survival. Just thought I would post my thoughts on this game as I have been playing it for the last few days.I have really enjoyed my time with this game so far. Probably the highlight when learning the ropes early on was using my one knife to fashion a spear. I threw this spear at an elk, blammo! Unfortunately it didnt kill the elk and it ran off with my only cutting implement. I starved. My last character was getting on pretty well, had a well stocked cellar and a virtually complete house, with livestock pen and the full gamut of tools for successful survival.

On this game portal, you can download the game Shellshock: Nam '67 free torrent. The full game Shellshock: Nam '67 was developed in 2004 in the Shooter genre by the developer Guerrilla Games for the platform Windows (PC). At the moment latest version: 1.0, rating: rate. ShellShock: Nam '67 is the game that's intent on bucking this trend and putting the horror back into the bullets - even if the jury's out on whether this is because of its historical significance or because they know the kids love to see the gristle flying off the bone. Vietnam is quickly becoming the new World War II as the backdrop de jour for action shooters. Shellshock: Nam '67, however, tries to set itself apart from the others by providing a much more gritty and realistic portrayal of the war and everything that came with it. Then I stumbled across a Njerpez camp (hmmm. A camp, whats this?), and got summarily murdered.I will certainly continue to have fun with this game for a good few weeks, and have no issue at all with the $3 one-version price tag. However, I feel like the $55 life-time registration does not sound too hot, because of a couple of things (cue the inevitable DF comparison):- Potential- 'Trust'And both of these are, in a DF sense, pretty closely linked.I don't see a huge amount of potential in UrW long term (from where it already is). I think Deon touched on this about ten months ago. It will be, as far as I can tell, 'a survival simulator based in iron-age Finland' for the entire development cycle of the game.I think DF goes beyond this. Vanilla DF will always be 'Dwarf Fortress'. The community, in whom Toady one has instilled so much trust by building the parameters of the game in to the RAW files, build on this to create the huge library of content available in the many mods.Cue figure 1.On the left, there are a few projections of fun vs. Time for DF.On the right, projections for UrW.

UrW may, arguably be more fun currently than DF adventure mode, but not as fun as DF fort mode (in my opinion). In the future I don't see to much progression. Had the game been moddable the community would have no doubt filled the game with the content it lacks.Clearly to me, the fact that Toady has built his game (Vanilla) from first principles (dwarf is heart + lung + skin etc.) and instilled a huge amount of trust in to the community and the future of the game by making the game 'moddable' means that in the not too distant future DF will be what UrW wants to be, thanks to another survivalist Finn with too much time on his hands. Also, the Toad has given this to us all. UrW calls for payment. I have no issue in this but personally because of this small thing I will continue to give to Toady as my means allow it, and I will probably keep buying the $3 versions of UrW as and when I feel like upgrading. In summary, support independent gaming, buy UrW, its really a lot of fun.But give more to Toady.(that went on longer than I expected - sod it I'll post anyway).

Unreal world mods

If only i could find more games like this.I found this recently and i like it. Sure it wont be as good as df in some years, but this is here now! And i really want to try the whole living out of your pack thing. The hunting is FANTASTIC! Its really involving and i find myself relishing the chase of a reindeer with my hand made bow. I also love how you can use your clothing as a resource! Why dont other games do this?!

And surviving winter becomes a whole new challenge. All for under 5 $. I'm playing version 3.0, I've built my first sauna and I've got myself a couple of cows (I never have to go hungry And finally, is there something I can do to make townspeople friendly again?

Or will they stay pissed forever? I might have stolen a cow or two.Okay, I stole four cows. About dragging people out of the pit, you pretty much have to leave them there. You should still be able to take their things tho, by just standing next to the hole & picking it up.Skill improvement is a bit of a mystery to me.

In various versions of URW it gets broken, fixed, and then broken again. I have read on some forums that shooting arrows at trees works for target practice & can train the skill, & hopefully it would work with spears as well.

I've not tried it myself so i dont know.in battle, i usually go for the legs with a blunt attack at first. Many times you can knock them over and if they stay down, stab em with a pointy attack, if they get back up knock em back down again.I'm not sure, but ive read that if you stay away from the town for a whole season they'll settle down.BTW, never go into town with a weapon equipped, thats probably what you did to piss them off. Right now cabins are a bit more freeform: you choose where to build each wall and floor/ceiling.

5 logs per wall segment. Trees are MUCH denser now, you can probably build half of the cabin just by chopping the trees where it should be and a bit more around it for walking area, and maybe where you're building the fence. If you put it next to a river, you can make a raft, chop the trees near the shores and then haul them all in the raft.It is a big improvement believe me. Almost the only reason I bought a $3 or whatever single version license. I had more trouble in the latest version at becoming self-sustaining, with food. In the end I had to look for a settlement and trade javelins/clubs/staffs/bowls for bread.

As soon as it was possible to get some farming done, I was getting crazy amounts of vegetables (these don't rot). Also consider building a cellar, it keeps your food from rotting so fast.Once in a while my trap fence kills an elk or two, often I have to quickly pick up all I can and sell it at the settlement and come back for the rest before it spoils. Right now I have like 300 smoked/salted meats in my cellar and they seem to keep forever (in truth it's supposed to last only 30 days but the cellar multiplies it by I-don't-know-how-much. Some of the food in there is over 2 months old).
