For Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics on the PlayStation 4, a GameFAQs message board topic titled 'Just noticed this game has an M rating'. Forget about saving the king, forget about saving the townsfolk, a true hero is one who saves the day! Once you begin Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics, there is no turning back. Mystery Chronicle overhauls the gameplay and graphics of the highly acclaimed indie title One Way Heroics.

Whether it's ADOM, IVAN or (arguably) Dwarf Fortress, let's talk about it!Rules:. Be nice. Limit (self-)promotional material to once per three months, especially when not relating to traditional roguelikes. Video reviews/plays of 'roguelikelikes' will be removed. No low effort posts or memes. I've got the game yesterday and been playing it the whole day today. This seems the best roguelike-like game I've played for a long time.

It's extremely polished and you can feel that it's heavily influenced by DCSS. Maybe the game is relatively new so there's few guide through online, and the game do have some intriguing bits. Here's some random tips that to help people get started.Into the game you'll find that there's the 'darkness' from the left side of the screen. The screen is automatically scrolling to the right.

If you get caught by the left border of the screen it's game over.About the battle. The game does have 8 way movement. You can use the numpad, or use ctrl to move diagonal. Most other thing are pretty obvious, as it's turn based as most roguelike games.Actually you can wait in place. It's done by hitting ctrl+x.Facing of player does have effects.

You get more damage when getting hit from behind. All equipments have durability limits. It's the number in in your inventory.

If it hits 0 the equipment would disappear! Watch out for that or your weapon would disappear in the middle of a battle. There seems no way to increase the durability(you can slow down its decreasing).

This is quite intended(will explain later).Energy. There's HP, ST(which is basically MP) and an Energy bar that looks like a food clock. If it hits zero you won't die, but HP/ST regeneration would stop and attack adn defense would drop dramatically. Some skills also consumes Energy.About the Boss: the boss would appear many times in game. Actually it would disappear after 3 in game hours.

So early on you can just runaway. You can use the Awake skill to escape quite easily.

Later on in the game if you feel confident you can try kill the boss. If you managed to kill it then you've won.Partners: this is the part I've got little ideas about. You can get partners with you. They'll stick within your grid(not like partners in DCSS that moves freely). They can attack and do other things. Notice that there's unique partners that have dialogues and special abilities.

Partners can die when get too many hits. But I've got no idea where to look for their HP and other status. When you've won the game or died, you'll see the post game menu. There you can stash part of your items into the Dimension Vault.

You can use them later on in another run. Notice that equipments have durability, so you can't use one weapon to get through all your games. The game does support save spamming to a extend. You can save in towns, and the save would not perish either you die or win the game.

This is actually quite weird to me.About the content. There's at least four difficulties when generating world(in the third one it mentions new items and partners). There's 8 classes and a bunch of perks. The website suggests there's a hidden boss and a hidden ending. So there's quite a lot of content in the game.Overall I really like this game.

It feels polished and have done so many things right. I suggest anybody interested to get it. It's in a bundle now and you can get some other games and maybe a steam key later.

Thanks for the tips! Some addenda from what I've experienced:. There is a way to restore durability. You can use a Shield Repair Kit for shields, and for the rest of your gear, you can use a Scroll of Jerryrigging, which will set all durability to maximum but make the item brittle, so it will lose durability faster from then on. I'm not sure if this debuff stacks, but either way it should be possible to have a weapon survive forever with enought of these scrolls.

About the Boss: I'm not going to spoil anything, but beating the Demon Lord is just one of many possible endings, in fact the simplest one. There is much more to discover in the world and not everything is what it seems:).

PS: Just realized you covered this in your last point. Save scumming: Yes it is possible, but not as exploitable as it first seems. You will only get rewards for beating the game the first time you do so with a character, so while you can replay your saves, you will not get anything the next times. Also, you get completion bonuses for not saving, so there's that.
